All-On-X Dental Implants In Bethesda, MD

You Can Get a Beautiful, Functional Smile in Just One Day!

All-On-X Implants replace a full arch of missing teeth using four to six implants to support a screw-retained denture or screw-retained implant bridge. Although many tooth replacement options are available for people who’ve lost all of their teeth or need to have their remaining teeth removed, dental implants are at the top of the list because they are permanent, natural-looking, and comfortable.

All-On-X is now one of the most popular dental implant options available. At Bethesda Center for Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer this advanced and reliable technique to our patients with all or most of their teeth missing. With All-On-X, we can permanently attach lifelike replacement teeth to as few as four implants, minimizing surgery time and improving recovery. Our patients are overwhelmingly satisfied with their results and enjoy their newfound ability to eat their favorite foods and share a gorgeous smile.

What are All On X Implants?

All-On-X Implants use dental implants anchored in the jawbone to support realistic-looking prosthetic teeth. Depending on the number of implants used, the procedure is sometimes referred to as All-On-4 or All-On-6.

The replacement teeth look and function just like your natural teeth. They’re also easy to care for. You would follow the same oral hygiene routine of brushing at least twice daily and flossing at least once daily. You will also need to schedule regular dental checkups and professional dental cleaning. While the prosthetic teeth won’t decay, regular checkups ensure we can monitor potential gum issues and implant health.

We can also place screw-retained dental bridges on the implants for patients who have lost most, but not all, of their teeth. This uses the same process to secure a dental bridge that is permanent and fixed for comfort and convenience.

Permanent tooth replacement using dental implants is popular for many reasons not available with more temporary solutions such as dentures.

  • Chewing gum
  • Laughing and kissing with confidence
  • Speaking with confidence
  • Smiling without worry
  • Preserving jawbone health
  • Easy care without having to remove your replacement teeth

Fast, Revolutionary All-On-X Implants

The All-On-X procedure is revolutionizing dentistry. This style of dental implant is helping transform the lives of people who are missing all of their teeth while reducing trauma to the jawbone and speeding recovery times. The implants are far more comfortable than other replacement options, such as standard removable dentures. Other benefits that they have over dentures include:

  • They are more secure and reliable.
  • No more worries about shifting or clicking dentures
  • Implants prevent jawbone loss
  • They stabilize the jawbone
  • They encourage jawbone strength by stimulating new bone growth

Why Are Fewer Implants Desirable for All-On-X Implants?

A full arch of replacement teeth can be attached to four, six, or more implants. You can also opt to have an individual implant for each tooth with crowns to replace each tooth, but All-On-X implants are quickly becoming a favorite with patients of all ages because they use fewer implants to support a complete set of upper or lower teeth.

Research has shown that a full arch of upper or lower teeth needs to have at least four implants for adequate support. The dental implants are small screw-like posts that act the same way your natural tooth root does. The screws, made of titanium, are placed into the jawbone. They then fuse directly with the bone to provide stability and reliability.
With fewer implants, a process that used to take months can now be completed in one day. If the patient tolerates the insertion of the implants well, the prosthetic teeth can be attached immediately. Prosthetic teeth stabilize the implants and provide support during the healing process. When the following conditions are met, the procedure can be completed in as little as one day:

  • Implants must not be moved during the healing process, or they will not fuse to the jawbone correctly.
  • Patients must follow a soft diet and eliminate hard, crunchy, and soft foods for the first 6-8 weeks.
  • Implants need to be placed strategically for the best support.

All-On-X Implants are more time-efficient and affordable than using an individual implant for each tooth. Using All-On-X Implants provides the same benefits as individual dental implants at a fraction of the time and cost.

All-on-X Implants Procedure

The procedure to receive All-On-X implants may be more complex than other procedures you’ve experienced. However, it is quicker and less invasive than other options. The seven steps involved in the process are:

  • Initial Consultation
  • Diagnostics
  • Planning
  • Precision Surgery
  • Temporary Teeth
  • Healing
  • Permanent Teeth

During the initial consultation, your dentist reviews records of your condition before speaking to you about risks and other factors. Your dentist will address the possibility of needing additional implants and the size and shape of the replacement teeth.

The diagnostic phase uses a CT Scan to create a 3-D image of your jawbone. This provides us with information about your jawbone, sinuses, and nerves. The images guide us in determining the ideal location for each dental implant. Planning is done with a computer simulation to position the implants in your jawbone digitally. The system will find the optimal location for each implant and create a surgical template used during surgery.

Precision surgery is done at the same time as any required tooth extractions or bone shaping. This portion of the process is more complicated if you have already experienced significant bone loss. Dr. Greenbaum will insert the implants into the planned locations using the surgical guide to ensure stability and proper fusion of the implants with the surrounding bone.

Temporary teeth are connected to your implants. These teeth help to secure the implants so they can heal properly without movement. It also gives you an immediate set of teeth, so you do not have to go without teeth for even one day. After sufficient healing, the temporary teeth are replaced with permanent replacement teeth.

The healing phase takes approximately three months. You will continue to use the temporary teeth during this time. For the first six to eight weeks, you will want to be on a soft diet to allow proper healing. It is crucial to follow our post-operative instructions for All-On-X implants to be successful.

Permanent teeth are placed after a fusion between your jawbone and the titanium screws are complete. At this point, we will replace the temporary teeth with permanent ones. They are made of stronger, more durable materials and fit much more precisely than temporary teeth.

Are There Risks Involved with All-On-X or Screw-Retained Implant Bridges?

Although All-On-X implants have an impressive success rate of over 95%, there are risks involved, as with any invasive procedure. Problems may arise from the following situations if you do not have your implants placed by a dentist experienced with dental implant surgery:

  • Insufficient planning may lead to improper placement
  • Poor quality implants
  • Inadequate follow-up care
  • Patients failing to stick to a soft diet during the healing process

Dr. Greenbaum and his dental care team have decades of experience placing All-on-X dental implants. They carefully plan every step of the process, following up with all patients to ensure they are properly caring for their new teeth and following their at-home care instructions. We use only the finest quality titanium implants to minimize the chance of implant failure and protect your oral health.

Are All-On-X Screw Retained Dentures Worth the Cost?

With a success rate of over 95%, All-On-X dental implants are a great investment in your oral health and ability to talk, eat, and smile without embarrassment or discomfort. The cost of All-On-X implants is lower than that for other procedures because less surgery is involved, few implants are required, and healing time is reduced.

Keep in mind that your dental implants can last a lifetime. With your All-on-X full arch prosthetic or screw-retained implant bridge in place, you can look forward to decades of dental health and comfort without spending money on denture cleaners, relining, repairs, or replacements.
