All on Four Implants are a dental implant solution for individuals who need to have all of their teeth replaced. There are many tooth replacement options available for people who’ve lost all of their teeth or need to have their remaining teeth removed. However, dental implants are at the top of the list when it comes to replacing missing teeth.
At the Bethesda Center for Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we help patients using this advanced and reliable technique. All on Four Implants allow us to permanently attach lifelike teeth using dental implants. This technique has been growing in popularity due to the success of the procedure along with the results and satisfied patients.
What are All on Four Implants?
All on Four Implants use dental implants anchored into the jaw bone to attach realistic-looking prosthetic teeth. These teeth will look and function just like your natural teeth. They’re also easy to care for. You would simply follow the same oral hygiene routine of brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day. You’ll also want to keep up on your regular dental checkups. While the prosthetic teeth won’t decay, it’s important to attend checkups to stay on top of gum tissue and implant health.

Why Four is the Magic Number for All on Four Implants
All on Four Implants use the fewest number of implants needed to support the highest amount of teeth. Research has shown that a full arch of upper or lower teeth needs to have at least four implants. The dental implants are small screw-like posts that act the same way your natural tooth root does. The screws, made of titanium, are placed into the jaw bone. They then fuse directly with the bone to provide stability and reliability.
A process that used to take months can now be completed on the same day. If the patient tolerates the insertion of the implants well, then the prosthetic teeth can be attached immediately. When the following conditions are met then the procedure can be completed in as little as one day:
- Implants must not be moved during the healing process or they will not fuse to the jaw bone correctly.
- Patients must follow a soft diet and eliminate hard, crunchy, and soft foods for the first 6-8 weeks.
- Implants need to be placed strategically for the best support.
- The prosthetic teeth stabilize the implants and provide support.
All on Four Implants are more time-efficient and affordable than using an individual implant for each tooth. Using All on Four Implants provides all the same benefits of individual dental implants at a fraction of both the time and the cost.

All on Four Implants Procedure
The procedure to receive All on Four Implants may be more complex than other procedures you’ve experienced. The seven steps involved in the process are:
- Initial Consultation
- Precision Surgery
- Temporary Teeth
- Permanent Teeth
During the initial consultation your dentist reviews records of your condition before speaking to you about risks and other factors. You will also discuss any remaining teeth that you may have. You’ll also address the possible need of additional implants as well as the size and shape of the teeth.
The diagnostic phase uses a CT Scan to create a 3-D image of your jawbone. This provides your dentist with information about your jawbone, sinuses, and nerves. The images help show the ideal implant locations.
Planning is done with a computer simulation to digitally position the All on Four Implants into your jawbone. The system will find the optimal location for each implant and create a surgical template.
Precision surgery is done at the same time as any required tooth extractions or bone shaping. This portion of the process is more complicated if you have already experienced significant bone loss. Your dentist will insert the implants into the planned locations for the best stability.
Temporary teeth are connected to your implants. These teeth help to secure the implants so they can heal properly without movement. After the healing is complete the temporary teeth are replaced with permanent teeth.
The healing phase takes approximately three months. You will continue to use the temporary teeth during this time. For the first six to eight weeks you will want to have a soft diet to allow proper healing. Follow your dentist’s instructions for the best chance of success.
Permanent teeth are placed after a fusion between your jawbone and the titanium screws are complete. At this point, your dentist will remove the temporary teeth and replace them with permanent teeth. They are made of stronger, more durable materials and fit much more precisely.
Enjoying Your All on Four Implants
After the procedure is complete you can get back to enjoying your life without worrying about your teeth. You’ll now be able to live more comfortably and confidently. Continue to care for your new All on Four Implants just as you would your natural teeth for best results.
