Your Child’s First Visit to the Dentist

A child’s dental health is so important, and as a parent you want the best for your child, so preparing for a visit to the dentist can seem overwhelming. After their first birthday is the perfect time for the visit. While the idea of an appointment with a one year old might be scary, the first visit is generally short with minimal treatment. You can hold your child in the chair as we perform the examination, where we examine the child’s teeth and gums. X rays may be done to check the growth progress of your child’s teeth under the gums. A light cleaning and fluoride treatment will be performed to prevent any decay.  During the appointment we will educate you on how to best care for your child’s teeth and review good teeth cleaning habits in a fun way for your child to become excited about oral health!

We have a few helpful tips to best prepare your child for their first visit to the dentist:

  • Take your child for a “preview” of the office.
  • Read books with them about going to the dentist.
  • Review with them what the dentist will be doing at the time of the first visit.
  • Speak positively about your own dental experiences.

We hope these tips help make the experience wonderful for your child. If you’re ready to schedule their first visit, please reach out to us!
